Vivo Y17 Review

Vivo is not any newbie in the smartphone business, especially in the Indian market. It has been the most popular brand when it comes to publicity and campaigning. It is one of the bestselling mobile brands of current times in India. Despite what Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung are bringing in the mid-range market, Vivo is doing its business confidently and aggressively. With crazy camera capabilities, in-display fingerprint readers, and minimal bezels are some factors which make Vivo quite a brand. Vivo’s new offering, Vivo Y17 is a slick and feature-loaded device which starts at Rs. 15,990. It comes with some new features and looks really good. But, are these factors enough to make it a good buy? Let’s check it out in the Vivo Y17 review below:

Design and Display

Vivo Y17 is not any dissimilar to other Vivo devices. It has got the same slab as the structure with round edges and a waterdrop notch on the front. The back gets deep-jewel tone colors on the rear panel which makes it look unique. The device is available in two color variants: Mineral Blue and Mystic Purple. Both of the color options have the gradient finish on the back which is inspired by the interplay of water and light. You can easily buy this phone online using Paytm Mall Promo Code with great offers. If you are looking for jobs then e-commerce could be the best chance to try.

On the rear panel, you get to see a triple camera module and a fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is very responsive and is reachable too. Although the rear panel is all plastic it gives glass look. Thanks to it, the device is very prone to smudges and fingerprints. On the right edge, you get to see a power button and volume rockers. On the left, you get to see a SIM Tray having space for two Nano-SIMs as well as a microSD card. Sadly, there is only a Micro-USB port on the bottom edge. The bottom edge also has a 3.5mm headset jack and a single speaker grille.

Coming to the display, Vivo Y17 packs a 6.35-inches screen with a pixel resolution of 720 x 1544 in a 19:3:9 aspect ratio. The display is not something which can be the USP of this device. Even the cheaper devices come with high-resolution Full-HD panels such as Samsung Galaxy M30 and XiaomiRedmi Note 7. Overall, it is an average display which will not give you some crazy binge-watching experience.

Under the hood, Vivo Y17 has a MediaTekHelio P35 processor combined with internal storage of 128G and 4GB RAM. Vivo Y17 is not the most powerful device in this price segment. But, it can get the job done with ease. The apps are very responsive form the touch go. But, it is a poor performer if we compare to devices coming in this price tag. On the Geekbench test, this device scored 769 and 4,106 points on single and multi-core tests respectively. These results are poorer than those of the Samsung Galaxy M30. Even cheaper phones like XiaomiRedmi Note 7 Pro, Realme 3 Pro, and Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 performs better than this device.

Vivo Y17 runs Android 9 Pie out of the box coupled with Funtouch OS 9 on top of it.

The Vivo Y17 has a triple camera setup including a 13-megapixel f/2.2 primary rear camera, an 8-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 depth sensor for portrait shots. For selfies, there is a 20-megapixel resolution with f/2.0 aperture as the front shooter. Daylight shots came out decent and brought the colors well-defined and full of detailing out. In the night, the device struggled a bit and the images come out grainy and noisy. The images lacked details and distant objects lacked edge detection too. The front-facing camera captured decent pictures in the daylight. While in the night sky, it struggled a bit and caused blurry images.

Battery Life

Vivo Y17 comes with 5,000mAh battery which can easily give you one day of juice with ease. Vivo hasn’t published any battery claims- how long can it last? But, on HD Video loop test, this device ran for 19 hours which is impressive. Out of the box, you get an 18W charger. The device also supports “dual engine” fast charging which ensures faster speed and protection. On daily usage- opening camera for some photography and strolling through different apps, this device can give you a day and a half. In terms of battery life, various options available in the market and one can buy those using Mobikwik Offers with discounted prices.

Full Verdict

The Vivo Y17 looks really good and comes with high-capacity battery life as well as supports fast charging. The device comes with ample storage and camera works decently fine too. For daily usage, this device can easily handle the job. If you are the one who wanders around social networking and messaging apps, then this might be the phone for you. But, the device is not offering good value for money. The processor, display, and cameras are not par seeing the competition. Even cheaper phones come with better processors and display. Vivo might have ticked all the boxes for simple users but spending a chunk of money on this device is not the option for others. If you want to spend money on better phones, then Redmi Note 7 Pro and Realme 3 Pro are some worthy options to buy.
